My first time experience at KubeCon+CloudNativeCon EU

My first time experience at KubeCon+CloudNativeCon EU

I was fortunate enough to attend this massive conference 🤯 held online from May4-7 courtesy Bill Mulligan and CNCF ambassador Kunal Kushwaha

The team had put on mammoth effort in making a platform exclusively for everyone to join and take part in Kubecon. Our schedule was released on Sched. This is very nice platform for events. We were able to make our custom schedule here on what we want to attend. Our access to the exclusive Kubecon platform was taken away in mid june because afterwards all sessions were uploaded on youtube( except networking, hallway and AMA sessions)

Check the schedule here

Though I started to attend only from May 5 (Day1) as my college evaluations were going on, there were sessions held on 3rd and 4th May as well. The 3rd and 4th May was was majorly for the Co-located Events for which additional registration was required. Along these there were Sessions by Kubecon Sponsors as well and some other sessions too

The most helpful and probably most important for students was College to Cloud Native Session. Kubecon is a huge event, experienced people get overwhelmed at times, then the first timers are bound to be.

This session is an awesome guide for the the Kubecon on what to attend about where to go. More over we are told how to get involved in the community and available opportunities.

But the Biggest Attraction were the Diversity+Inclusion Sessions🤩!! Read on to find about these.

Fun Fact: There was so much activity on slack that both desktop and mobile app were lagging during conference days😂

Day1🥳

Here comes the 5th of May for which everyone had eagerly waited over those two days. I watched whole key note session. It was exciting.

Here's a thread on Day 1 keynotes by Bill Mulligan

Then there were some really amazing sessions whole. A few of them👇

  1. Path to Non Code contribution

  2. Communication breakdowns and How to prevent them

  3. eBPF- on the Rise

Hallway Track is the most interesting and beneficial thing on slack channel. There are live zoom meetings whole day and we get to network with really awesome people from the community

At the end of the day there was a live AMA happy hour with CNCF General Manager Priyanka.

Now before the Day 1 Keynotes started I had just watched recording of the College to Cloud Native Session from Twitch channel of Cloud Native. By then I was really late to fill the forms required for registering to attend diversity + inclusion sessions

First Diversity + Inclusion session empowerus-sponsored-by-google-cloud

Day 2 😎

Here also we had keynote sessions at first Twitter thread day2 keynotes

Couple of interesting Sessions I went to on Day2

  1. A-pathway-to-cncf-citizenship
  2. Building a community

Again there was AMA with Priyanka at the end of the Day and of course the Hallway Sessions run whole day! We are free to jump anytime to talk with folks in community.

Allyship to Sponsorship was another diversity+ inclusion session

Day 3

Last Day 😢

Keynote thread

A couple of sessions

  1. Taking bare metal to cloud with tinkerbell

  2. Tackling-new-challenges-in-a-virtual-focused-community

In the evening was the most in demand Diversity+ inclusion Session Peer-group-mentoring-career-networking.😥 I wasn't able attend, forms were filled much before. Please fill out forms asap after they are released🙏

Then again at end there was AMA with General Manager

Besides all the sessions, there were Project Office hours dedicated to respective CNCF projects. Then there were technical session by sponsors of there products, sessions by project maintainers were also there

The time had been so amazing that by end of last day no one really wanted to leave. But it is what it is. People left with new learning and networks.

These few session are literally nothing as compared to number of awesome sessions that were held. A plethora of them. I just shared a select few to just give an overview of how the experience is like.

An interesting thing is that after each technical session, the speakers came live on platform to take doubts.

It was a great 👌 learning experience. Do join the next KubeCon+CloudNative Con happening in NorthAmerica October 2021

I did not find any keynote videos so attached twitter threads. If anyone happens to find them do comment down below with links
